Impact of Solidification on Inclusion Morphology in ESR and PESR Remelted Martensitic Stainless Steel Ingots

This study focuses on the impact of solidification inclusion morphologies in different sizes production-scale electro-slag remelting (ESR) and under a protected pressure-controlled atmosphere, (PESR), ingots, common martensitic stainless steel grade. The investigation has been carried out to increase knowledge change during ESR PESR remelting. In order optimize process routes for grades, it is important define advantages processes. A comparison made between an electrode, ESR, ingots with ingot sizes, from 400 mm square 1050 diameter. electrode two smallest are same charge. samples taken both rolled/forged material. structure, dendrite arm spacing, chemical analyzes, number and/or forged/rolled material studied. results show that larger further towards center ingot, inclusions found. As long as solidifies columnar dendritic structure (DS), size diameter approximately linear. However, at (1050 this study) when converts equiaxial mode (EQ), much higher. transition grade takes place region diameters 800 mm.
